Flash butt welding, also known as flash butt welding, is a type of resistance welding machine. Two metal workpiece ports are in contact and conduct electricity through the contact points of the ports. The workpiece is then heated by the resistance heat of the workpiece itself. When the temperature reaches the melting point, the metal melts to form a liquid metal layer. The liquid metal is extruded by applying a transverse upsetting force, so that the two workpieces are closely combined to produce common grains, thereby obtaining a hot forging structure to form a butt joint.

Formation of flash
After the two metal workpieces that are in contact with each other are energized, some bumps between the ports first come into contact. When the current passes through these contact points, the conductive area suddenly decreases, causing the current lines to move downward and shrink, thereby increasing the resistance. The resistance generates more heat, and the ports are rapidly heated and melted to form liquid metal lintels. These metal lintels conduct heat into the interior of the workpiece. Each lintel has liquid surface tension, radial compression effect force, electromagnetic attraction and electromagnetic repulsion. The radial compression force is proportional to the square of the current intensity flowing through the lintel. Under the action of these forces, the diameter of the lintel decreases, the current density increases sharply, and the temperature rises rapidly, causing metal vapor to appear inside the lintel. The metal vapor causes the volume of the liquid lintel to expand rapidly and explode, and the molten metal particles splash out from the gap between the openings, forming flying sparks. The location after blasting left a crater with a certain depth, creating conditions for the formation of lintels nearby. The flashing process is a process in which liquid metal lintels are continuously produced at the welding end face and then exploded continuously.
