The main function of quenching is to increase the rigidity, hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, fatigue strength and toughness of the metal. Quenching is to heat the metal above the critical temperature, keep it warm for a certain period of time, and then immerse it in water,

The main workpieces that need to be quenched after flash butt welding are steel, aluminum alloys and copper alloys. The main function of quenching is to increase the rigidity, hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, fatigue strength and toughness of the metal.

Quenching is a heat treatment process that heats metal to above the critical temperature, keeps it warm for a certain period of time, and then rapidly cools it in quenching media such as water, oil, other inorganic salts, and organic aqueous solutions to obtain an unbalanced structure.

There are many quenching methods, and there are four common ones, namely double-medium quenching, graded quenching, isothermal quenching, and single-medium quenching.

1. Dual-medium quenching: The workpiece heated to the quenching temperature is first cooled to about 300°C in a quenching medium with strong cooling capacity, such as water, and then transferred to a quenching medium with weak cooling capacity, such as oil, to cool to room temperature, so as to achieve different quenching cooling temperature ranges and have a more ideal quenching cooling rate. Used for parts with complex shapes or high carbon steel, alloy steel, etc.

2. Graded quenching: A quenching process in which the workpiece heated to the quenching temperature is quenched in a low-temperature salt bath or alkali bath for an appropriate time. After the inner and outer layers of the workpiece have reached the medium temperature, the workpiece is taken out for air cooling. It can greatly reduce quenching stress and prevent deformation and cracking.

3. Single-medium quenching: Quench the workpiece that has been heated to the quenching temperature into a quenching medium (water, oil, air) to completely cool it. This is the simplest quenching method and is often used for carbon steel and alloy steel workpieces with simple shapes.
